museum, art, photoop, food, cafe, Lisbon, Lapa, Lisboa
Although called the Museum of Ancient Art this is really Lisbon’s primary art museum and considered one of the most important museums in Lisbon. Its treasures run from the 14th through the 20th centuries. While it features some of the best known Portuguese artists it also has paintings from artists from all over the world. Of particular interest is the collection of Japanese screens from the 16th century. The Portuguese were the first Europeans to land in Japan. A side bonus is the wonderful cafeteria which features a very large outdoor patio area with sweeping views of the river. If you just want to enjoy the cafeteria just tell the guard the entry that you want to visit the cafeteria and you won’t have to pay for admission to the museum. As with most other museum’s in Lisbon it is closed on Monday’s and admission is free on Sunday’s until 1400. The museum is located in the Lapa district and can be accessed via Tram 25. Open Wed-Sun 10 AM (1000) to 6 PM (1800) & Tue 2 PM - 6 PM. Closed Mondays.
