Ajuda Palace (Palacio da Ajuda)
museum, palace, history, Lisbon, Lisboa, Belem
If you only have time to visit one palace on your trip to Lisbon this is probably the one to visit. It is the most elegant and well preserved palace in greater Lisbon. The palace is filled with tapestries, furniture, art and decorative pieces all reflective of the enormous wealth that accrued to Portuguese royalty during the 1700’s as a result of Portugal’s colonization of Brazil. The palace is in Belem uphill from the Jeronimos Monastery. If you are visiting Jeronimos you can catch Tram 18 or just walk from Jeronimos. The palace is open from 10 AM (1000) to 5 PM (1700) and is closed on Wednesday’s.
