Operated by the Chicago Academy of Sciences, the nature museum was founded in 1857 and was Chicago’s first museum dedicated to nature and science. Possessing one of the finest natural history collections in the mid-19th century, it was unfortunate when it was lost in the Great Chicago Fire. Now located on the southeastern banks of the North Pond, the nature museum provides families and nature enthusiasts a place to learn about and enjoy nature.
