The Symons Building - part of the Heritage Walk
Symons Building, Heritage Walk, Spokane WA,sponsor
T.W. Symons Jr., a World War I veteran and pioneer in aviation, built the red brick and terra cotta Symons Block in 1917. It took 12 railroad cars to bring the steel for the construction of this building to Spokane from Minneapolis.
The highly-regarded architectural team of Archibald Rigg and Roland Van Tyne, known for several Spokane landmarks, designed the Symons Block. It was built in 1917-1918, with great attention paid to style and investment in quality materials and construction.
Spokane business investor Colonel Thomas W. Symons and his son helped bring broadcast radio to the Northwest. For many years the Symons Building was home to Spokane’s first radio station. Today it is used for retail and office space.
