Escala tower is the centerpiece of E.L. James' 2012 novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey." Featured throughout this fictional novel, the “1920 – Fourth Ave.” address of the elegant, 30-story ESCALA is among Seattle’s most exclusive addresses, and the building is shown in a number of location shots in the movie of the same name.
For fans, it is a major photo op. Since Escala is a private residence, most fans are limited to having their picture taken in front of the street sign and shots capturing the building exterior. Several scenes in "Fifty Shades of Grey" were filmed at the top of the big circular stairway. The grand staircase ascends from the lobby to Club Cielo, an exclusive 25,000-square-foot city club for homeowners and their guests.
