One of the world's largest concrete structures, Grand Coulee Dam is the largest hydropower producer in the US and fourth largest producer in the world.
Construction of Grand Coulee Dam began in 1933 and was completed in 1942. Grand Coulee Dam has a total generating capacity of 6,809 megawatts. It is also part of the Columbia Basin Project, irrigating more than 600,000 acres, and is the cornerstone for water control on the Columbia River in the United States.
Pump-Generating Plant Guided Tour is FREE
This 50-minute guided tour is available only on a first-come, first-served basis. The tour begins at the tour parking lot on the east side of the dam where you will board a bus to be taken to the Pump-Generating Plant. The tour concludes with a bus ride across the top of the dam.
NOTE: All tour participants are required to pass through a metal detector prior to beginning the tour. Call (509) 633-9265 to inquire about tour availability and to arrange group tours.
