The Davenport Hotel Walking Tour
Davenport Hotel, Walking Tour,sponsor
A self-guided walking tour of the Davenport Hotel feels like stepping back in time, and is a “must-do” when you visit Spokane. The tour will take 30-45minutes.
The building has been known as Spokane’s living room since Louis Davenport opened the hotel in 1914. It was the first hotel in the United States with air conditioning, a central vacuum system, pipe organ and dividing doors in the ballrooms. It is also the place at which the first Crab Louis (named after Mr. Davenport) was created and served.
The lobby, ballrooms and public spaces were restored in 2000-2002 to their former glory. You will enjoy walking through stunning examples of a number of architectural styles.
A pamphlet describing the tour is available in the lobby at the concierge desk. The Davenport Hotel is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
