St. Anthony’s Church (Santo Antonio de Lisboa)
church, festival, Lisbon, free
Matchmaker and protector of brides, St. Anthony was born in Lisbon. As such St. Anthony’s Church is a favorite stop among Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
The church was built in 1757 and, as church’s go, it isn’t particularly unique or grand. Its significance lies with its namesake, St. Anthony. If you happen to be fortunate enough to be in Lisbon in mid-June you might be lucky enough to be at St. Anthony’s during the Feast of St. Anthony when mass weddings are held.
St. Anthony’s is in the Alfama area and can be reached via Tram 28.
