South Puget Sound Urban Wildlife Interpretive Center
90-acre property that started as a game farm and fish hatchery in 1922, and it still operates today as a hatchery as well as an urban wildlife area.
This center is managed by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife. If hatchery staff are present they’ll often offer you an on-the-spot tour.
The property is one of the last remnants of south Sound prairie ecosystem that once stretch across thousands of acres in the region. Although now surrounded by urban development, the property continues to support a variety of species that are adapted to open grassland habitats.
