“Overwhelming” is the word most used for the view from the deck at Hoffstadt Bluffs Visitor Center. The view of Mt. St. Helens from Hoffstadt Bluffs gets you an up-close view of the mountain and the flood plain where the blast driven mud rushed down into the valley, raising the ground level nearly a mile higher than it was prior to May 18, 1980.
Hoffstadt Bluffs is your first panoramic view opportunity of Mount St. Helens on Highway 504.
The building is one of the largest post-and-beam structures on the West Coast. And it houses the “Memories of a Lost Landscape” exhibit depicting the mountain prior to the blast.
Outside, a paved walking path will take you through a memorial grove, planted in 2000 in memory of all 57 people who perished in the May 18, 1980 eruption.
Hoffstadt Bluffs Visitor Center is the second closest to the I-5 corridor.
Open 9:30 – 4 every day of the week.
