"Calling the Healing Waters" - The World's Largest Human-figure Sundial
Entitled “Calling the Healing Waters,” the 6-ton, 15-foot-tall bronze sculpture by Keith Powell and David
Govedare honors Soap Lake’s healing legacy and cultural heritage. The sculpture features a Native American man with a woman sitting on a rock. The one and a half lifed size bronze sculpture features a winged male stretching his left arm towards the sky as his right arm protects and comforts a seated female figure holding a catch basin. The outstretched feathered arm serves as the gnomon for the sundial by casting shadows on time lines and hour posts. The sloped base and hour posts are basalt columns.
Conceived in 1996, and installed in 2009, “The Calling the Healing Waters” sculpture and sundial and Promontory Plaza are located close to the Beeks Amphitheater and the Soap Lake RV Park.
