Tacoma Dome

Tacoma Dome by VisitWa

The Tacoma Dome is one of the largest wood domed structures in the world. It is owned and operated by the City of Tacoma’s Public Assembly Facilities Department. Flexibility is the key to the success of the Tacoma Dome. With numerous seating configurations available – 65% of the seating is moveable – almost any event is possible. The unique seating configurations mean the Tacoma Dome can accommodate 1,000 to 23,000 patrons, making it the largest indoor venue in the State of Washington. Seating flexibility, combined with a sound reverberation of 2.5 seconds, make the Tacoma Dome the Preferred Concert Venue of the Pacific Northwest.

Lower Snake River Wind Farm

Lower Snake River Wind Farm by VisitWa

Ph. 509-382-2043 The Lower Snake River Wind Facility is Puget Sound Energy’s newest and largest wind-power operation. Completed in early 2012, the facility is the largest wind farm, to date, in Washington. Combined with PSE’s other two WA facilities, PSE is the largest utility producer of wind power in the Northwest and second-largest in America. Lower Snake River-Phase I contains 149 wind turbines, manufactured by Siemens Energy. Each turbine has 2.3 megawatts MW of generating capacity – enough to power about 700 homes. The turbines stand 430 feet from the ground to the tip of a vertical blade, with rotors measuring 331 feet in diameter. The site also contains two large substations, 64 miles of underground power lines that collect the project’s power output, and 8 miles of overhead, high-voltage transmission lines that move the turbines’ power onto the Bonneville Power Administration’s regional transmission grid. A permit is required to walk the area. Permits are issued online at this link: http://ps

World famous for the non-existent 60 foot lava lamp by VisitWa

Ph. (509) 350-9965 2013 marked the 50th anniversary for the invention of the lava lamp, and 2013 also marked year 11 that the Town of Soap Lake has been planning their 60 foot tall lava lamp. Sanctioned by the creators of the lava lamp, the 1,514 residents of Soap Lake have been working for more than a decade to fund and build a 60 foot tall lava lamp, but they haven’t built it yet. However Soap Lake has become famous around the world for being the town who plans to build a 60 foot tall lava lamp. News coverage and articles about Soap Lake’s plans has circled the globe, and many come to see this town with such ambitious plans. Marked by a large sign, the planned location for the 60 foot tall lava lamp can be visited in central Soap Lake. Sculpture - "Calling the Healing Waters"

Sculpture - "Calling the Healing Waters" by VisitWa

"Calling the Healing Waters" - The World's Largest Human-figure Sundial Entitled “Calling the Healing Waters,” the 6-ton, 15-foot-tall bronze sculpture by Keith Powell and David Govedare honors Soap Lake’s healing legacy and cultural heritage. The sculpture features a Native American man with a woman sitting on a rock. The one and a half lifed size bronze sculpture features a winged male stretching his left arm towards the sky as his right arm protects and comforts a seated female figure holding a catch basin. The outstretched feathered arm serves as the gnomon for the sundial by casting shadows on time lines and hour posts. The sloped base and hour posts are basalt columns. Conceived in 1996, and installed in 2009, “The Calling the Healing Waters” sculpture and sundial and Promontory Plaza are located close to the Beeks Amphitheater and the Soap Lake RV Park. Commemorates the Colville Confederated Tribes Commissioned by the Soap Lake Garden Club
